Having maps has been a necessity for us for as early as history can tell. Google Maps is basically a web mapping service application brought to us by Google. It offers a wide array of map-based services including Google Maps website, Google Transit and Google Ride Finder.
The Google finder works by tapping into a in-car GPS that allows the system to identify the vehicles current location. Google transit on the other hand works by calculating the transit time and cost of a specific route in comparison to that which uses a private vehicle like a car.
The application also allows the user to download the map of a certain country or place one is not familiar with and plans to visit. This prevents expensive international roaming data downloading.
On the other hand, when a business search is done, results are downloaded first into the background for it to be inserted in the side panel and the map. The application is useful for it provides street maps, an route planner needed when traveling and also a locator for business establishments in several countries in the globe.
However, images of maps from the application may not be real-time accurate, images may be months old before it is updated. The locations are dynamically drawn through red pins positioned at the top of the map images. These pins are composed of many partially transparent PNGs.
The Google maps is an application that provides necessary direction for people trying to find a certain location or for those who are in need of guide in the course of their travel. Google has once more made something in our lives easier through one genuinely useful application.
