Google Mail – User Interface and User Experience Design

E-mailing is one of the most important means of communication today and there are now many webmail systems around that allow us to do such. The Google Mail or Gmail interface is one that is unique compared to most webmail systems.

One unique attribute of Gmail that is different to others is that it allows you to manage e-mails in a conversation view which is faster and easier for users. Most of its features are also search-oriented.

Filters and labels are also one of the features of the Gmail interface that makes e-mail management easier. The users can now filter messages by fields like the e-mail’s “From”, “To” and “Subject”. In addition, users can also filter massages whether they are with or without attachments. Method categorization is now made easy with Google Mail.

Gmail does not also manage e-mails well but it also manages contacts well. It saves contact details when forwarding e-mails to recipient which is previously unknown automatically. Not only that, it can also update the contact list each time a user performs changes information such as the name while sending email with the exception of users that use basic HTML.
